Hello and welcome to this Plug-In Profit Site training blog! My name is Suzanne Morrison and I started this blog a number of years ago now for the purpose of helping and training Plug-In Profit Site (PIPS) members.

On this site you'll find lots of training tips and articles to help you promote your site. You'll also find a number of reviews of individual programs within the Plug-In Profit Site. Please bear in mind when you read these that there have been a number of changes to PIPS over the years, so many of the programs that I reviewed are no longer a part of the Plug-In Profit Site anymore.

Traffic Wave Added to the Plug-In Profit Site

NOTE - Traffic Wave has now been removed from PIPS.

On January 13th Stone made the decision to remove Lawn Chair Millionaire from the Plug-In Profit Site and replace it with Traffic Wave.

Traffic Wave is a fully functional autoresponder, so it is a product that pretty much every online business needs and this should make it easier to sell and refer others too. The company was founded in 2000 and is Better Business Bureau (BBB) accredited

I think this is a good decision as Traffic Wave is much more affordable than LCM, provides a good solid product (unlike LCM) and they provide a nice 100% commission on the initial sale. This means that although it costs $17.95 per month, you only need to refer one other person to break even for that month.

When you join Traffic Wave you have two options. The first is a 30 day trial, which is great for the undecided, especially since you don't even need to add your credit card details. The second option, which I took, was the $17.95 per month option. This gives you the immediate ability to earn commissions.

Remember to login to your Plug-In Profit Site affiliate area and add your Traffic Wave ID so that you get full credit for any referrals you make!

If you want an autoresponder without the monthly fee, you may want to consider GetResponse - they have a free account for up to 100 subscribers and bigger accounts for a reasonable monthly fee

Get Traffic to Your Site with Sweeva

Over the last few days I've been using a unique traffic exchange called Sweeva. Sweeva is free to join and works in a completely different way to most traffic exchanges.

Here are the main differences:

1) Everyone views your site at the same time - you use credits to bid for a particular time of day and when that time arrives, if you have bid enough credits, everyone who is logged on to Sweeva at that time can view your site and nobody elses.

2) Get Live Feedback on your Website - People can vote Yes, No or Unsure when they view your website and they can leave comments. A lot of people seem to leave completely useless comments, but the Yes and No voting will give you an idea of how well your page is received.

3) Unique Features - you can accumulate points and credits and unlock features by particpating. Participating means viewing other peoples' pages, leaving comments, tweeting, promoting your splash page, referring other people, using the toolbar and more. The benefit in this is that everyone has to participate to get value, which means more people to view your pages.

I've only been using Sweeva for a few days, so it is too early to write a full review, but it seems more responsive than most traffic exchanges and it's also fun to unlock features and climb the different levels :-) You can also watch people commenting on and rating your site live!

Sweeva, like other traffic exchange style sites works best when you advertise a short splash page or lead capture page rather than a long sales page or your home page.

Review of GDI (Global Domains International)

GDI - Global Domains International, also known as Website.ws has been a Plug-In Profit site program for over a year now, so I thought it was about time that I reviewed it!

Read my review of GDI below to find out: what is GDI, how much does it cost?, is GDI a scam? what do you get for your money? how much commission can you make? and what are the advantages and disadvantages?

What is GDI?
GDI is a business opportunity and a domain registration/hosting service.

What do you receive as a GDI member?
You receive a domain name with the .ws extension and a hosting account for that domain name. You also have access to a basic website builder. The hosting account provides up to 100Mb of disk space and 10Gb of traffic.

How much does it cost?
GDI offers a 1 week free trial and after 1 week the cost is $10 per month.

What does the Compensation Plan Offer?
The basic residual compensation is $1 per month per person that you sign up to GDI. This is only a 10% residual commission so it doesn't seem like, much, but you also get $1 for every person that everyone in your downline signs up. This makes it more powerful as it is easier to build up a good residual commission. I don't do much promotion for GDI and it is not my main business opportunity, but my residual commission is usually around the $150-200 per month mark

The big money is in the GDI bonuses. If you sign up 5 people in one week you receive a $100 bonus. If you sign up 10 people, this becomes a $200 bonus. This continues and you get $100 for every 5 people that you signup within 1 week.

How do I get paid?
GDI can either pay you by US $ check or by Paypal.

The bonuses can only be paid by Paypal.

How do you promote GDI?
You can promote GDI in all the usual ways, e.g. on your website, using classifieds, pay per click advertising, writing reviews, distributing articles etc. In addition to this you can also use their videos and DVDs, their tell a friend system or purchase leads from them.

If you are a member of the Plug-In Profit site, you can promote this opportunity passively by promoting the Plug-In Profit Site sales page.

What is their customer support like?
GDI has a customer support email address and an online FAQ. To request support you must login to your account and click on the "Request Support" button. I've used their support service a few times over the last few years and always received a satisfactory response within 1-2 business days.

What are the disadvantages / cons of GDI?
One annoying thing is that you have to jump through a few hoops before you can get paid bonuses. You need to sign and fax or mail in various affiliate agreements, purchase 10 DVDs (which you can use for promotion), provide a photo and testimonial and setup a .ws email address in Paypal. This is all very annoying, but you only have to do it once and this is only for bonus payments, not regular commissions.

GDI is an MLM (multi level marketing program). This basically means that you can earn commissions on multiple levels (e.g. sales that your affiliates make as well as your own sales). Some people are against MLM programs, so this is why I mention it here.

The website builder is pretty limited and there is also a limit of 10 pages. If you want to build a decent website you would be better downloading a free website builder program such as NVU.

What are the advantages / pros of GDI?
The main advantages of GDI in my opinion are:

Low entry cost and monthly cost
Easy to cover your monthly fee (10 signups)
Free trial and videos makes this opportunity easy to sell
Good bonus compensation plan
Above average retention rate
Basic website, domain name and hosting included, which is easy for newbies to setup.

Alternatives to Blogger FTP

If you use Blogger and you currently publish your blog to your own website (e.g yourwebsite.com/blog) using FTP, then you probably already know that Blogger are planning to stop supporting this method from May 1st 2010. A lot of people have been asking me what they can do about this, so in this post I intend to outline the different options available to you.

My first piece of advice is Don't Panic! Your blog is not going to disappear on May 1st. It will always be there on your website and people can still visit it and read your blog posts. On May 1st you will no longer be able to make new posts to your blog or edit your blog.

If you want to continue to blog then you have a few different options available to you. Here they are, along with the advantages and disadvantages of them.

OPTION 1 - Move your blog to blogspot hosting

This option will involve moving your blog so that it is hosted on Blogger's free blog hosting Platform, known as blogspot. Instead of publishing to yourwebsite.com/blog you would publish to yourblogname.blogspot.com.

The advantage of this is that it is easy to do. Simply login to blogger and follow the instructions, by clicking on the "Start migration" now link at the top of your dashboard. You will backup your blog, then choose your blogspot URL to publish to, then redirect the old blog to the new one. It is easy to do and you won't lose any traffic as it will be redirected to the new location.

The disadvantage of this is that you are no longer publishing to your own domain. Publishing to your own domain is more professional, it adds regular content to your site and you are in complete control.

OPTION 2 - Move your Blog to a Sub Domain

If your blog is currently on yourwebsite.com/blog, moving it to a sub domain means that your blog will publish to blog.yourwebsite.com instead.

As an example of this, I had a blog on my Wedding in Edinburgh website. The blog was originally at the address http://www.WeddingInEdinburgh.com/wedding-planning and after I did the migration the blog moved to http://wedding-planning.WeddingInEdinburgh.com . If you visit the old blog URL you will see a notice that says the blog has moved. The page will then automatically redirect to the new page within 30 seconds.

The main advantage of this method is that you are still publishing your blog to your own website, which looks more professional.

The disadvantage of this method is that it is a little more complicated to setup than the previous option. You will need to login to your cpanel and create a sub domain, then create a CNAME record that maps to ghs.google.com. You can however get your web host to do these things for you. Just raise a support ticket and ask them to create a sub domain and a CNAME record for that sub domain.

OPTION 3 - Switch to a WordPress Blog

WordPress is a much more flexible blogging Platform with more features and thousands of free themes (templates) and plugins available. It is free to use and allows you to publish to your own website.

This option would involve leaving your blogger blog alone (people can still visit it and read it, but you can't publish new posts to it) and then creating a brand new WordPress blog.

If you host on Hostgator, WordPress is very easy to install and you can install it by logging into your cpanel, clicking on Fantastico and following the instructions. I recommend creating a new directory on your site to install the blog into.

If you don't want to do this yourself, we offer a free WordPress blog installation for members of the PIPS Power Group. You can join the PPG for $1 for a 10 day trial and we provide the free blog install for you if you stay beyond the trial period.

The advantage of this method is that you are able to continue to blog on your own domain and have the power of WordPress.

The disadvantage is that some technical skills are required to install a WordPress blog and get it up and running.

If you currently host on Host4Profit unfortunately there is no automatic way to install WordPress. I would recommend moving your website to Hostgator as described in my Hostgator replaces Host4Profit blog post.

CONCLUSION:

I recommend that you choose one of the above options as soon as possible. I recommend either option 2 or option 3. I have a few blogs and I'm using option 2 for some of them and option 3 for others. I may consider providing a service for option 2 on my Plug-In Profit Update Services website, if there is a demand for this. If you are interested in this please post a comment below or email me.

It's been a while since I wrote a review of the Plug-In Profit Site. If you are thinking of signing up for a Plug-In Profit site you may have a few questions. Here is an up to date review of PIPS in FAQ form to help you decide.

Q. So What exactly is the Plug-In Profit Site then?

A. The Plug-In Profit site is the creation of Stone Evans and is a fully functioning website promoting 6 different affiliate programs/business opportunities. It also includes an ezine. Visitors to the website can sign up to the ezine and will receive follow up messages and articles every few days for 400 days.

Q. Which Affiliate Programs are promoted by the Plug-In Profit site?

The Plug-In Profit Site includes Empowerism, Strong Future International (SFI), Hostgator, My World Plus and Global Domains International (GDI).

Q. Do I have to sign up for all of the affiliate programs on the signup page?

No. You can join a subset of them as you wish. If you do this, your site will still contain links to these affiliate programs but you can remove them if you have no plans to sign up to these in the future. You must hoever, get your hosting from Hostgator.

Q. How much does it cost?

There is an initial cost and a monthly cost.

The initial minimum cost is around $10 (per year) for your domain name and less than $10 for your first month of hosting.

The monthly minimum cost is under $10 per month for your Hosting.

There are also some optional costs - if you decide to join Empowerism the cost is $29.95 initially then $19.95 per month. As mentioned before this is optional and you do not have to subscribe to this from the beginning. You can change your mind in the future at any time. You can also optionally join My World Plus for $69.96 and then $19.95 per month and/or GDI for a 7 day free trial and then $10 per month.

Q. Am I tied in to some sort of contract? What if I want to cancel?

There is no contract. if you decide that it's not for you you can cancel immediately and you won't be charged the following month. Some of the programs within the Plug-In profit site also have a refund option e.g. Host4Profit.

Q. Can I modify my Plug-In Profit site?

A. Yes, you can modify your site as long as you have a basic understanding of HTML or are able to use a website editor. It's 100% yours to change as you wish. Remove any links or banners you don't like, add new ones, create extra pages, change the color or get a complete redesign. If you don't want to make changes yourself you can get someone to make changes for you at Website Update Services or PIP Site Help

Q. How much money will I make?

This varies from person to person and depends on how much effort you are willing to put into it. If you do nothing to promote your site it will not be likely to make money. Personally I was in profit after 4-5 months and after 2 years my online income was sufficient for me to start working part time. In May 2007 I quit my day job.

Q. Is there any sort of training?

A. Yes - the Plug-In Profit site has a guide written by Stone Evans called 30 days to Success. This is a day by day guide to what you need to do to promote your website. There is also an excellent online members forum where you can get your questions answered and interact with other members. There is a fantastic full time support director, Patricia, who can answer your questions via the support help desk. I also provide personal training for everyone in my downline. This consists of email training and help via email, MSN messenger or Skype.

If you want to be mentored there is also the option of joining the PIPS Power Group.

Q. Is the Plug-In Profit site for everyone?

A. No, it isn't for everyone. Here are a few reasons why you may not want to have a Plug-In Profit site:

a) If you cannot afford at least $10 per month (for your hosting)
b) If you cannot spare a few hours each week to promote your site
c) If you do not have a credit card or access to PayPal.
d) If you need instant gratification i.e. profit within a few weeks rather than a few months
e) If you have something against Multi-level Marketing (MLM) programs

Q. Is the Plug-In Profit Site a pyramid scheme?

A. No. A pyramid scheme typically is a program which as no products. People pay to join, but receive nothing in return and only the people at the top of the "Pyramid" benefit. All the affiliate programs within the Plug-In Profit site are carefully screened and tried out before they are added and they all have products. For example SFI has vitamins, magazines, cleaning products and hosting. Empowerism has a monthly magazine, web templates, SEO tools and marketing training, My World Plus has a discount card and Hostgator provide web hosting.

Q. Do I need any prior knowledge to be Successful?

A. No. Prior knowledge is not necessary. As long as you have some basic computer skills you can learn what you need to know as you go along. When I started back in May 2004 I knew nothing at all about website marketing. I basically just learned as I went along. Now, this is what I do full time, from home.

Do I need to spend money on Advertising?

A. No. There are lots of effective free methods that you can use to promote your website e.g. article marketing, directory submission, forum marketing and more.

Q. How exactly do I make money from the Plug-In Profit Site?

A. You can make money in numerous ways from the Plug-In Profit Site:

(1) If someone signs up for hosting with Hostgator your will receive $50 commission.

(2) If someone signs up for My World Plus you will receive a $25 instant commission and monthly commissions and bonuses.

(3) If someone joins GDI you earn $1 per month + bonuses of $100 for every 5 accounts that you sign up in a week

(4) If someone buys an SFI product e.g. magazine, cleaning product, pet care product etc you will receive a commission.

(5) If someone joins SFI and buys something for themself you will receive a commission.

(6) If someone takes out a subscription to Empowerism you will receive an instant commission of $20 and a monthly commission of $7.

(7) Finally if someone signs up for their own Plug-In profit site from your site you will receive monthly commissions from some or all of the above.

Q. I am already involved in some other business opportunities. Can I add these to my website?

A. Yes - you can add any opportunities you wish to your website. Examples include Google Adsense, Clickbank, Commission Junction and more.

Hostgator Replaces Host4Profit in the Plug-In Profit Site

If you have been a member of the Plug-In Profit Site for a while you may feel a certain sense of deja-vu when reading this.

Stone just made the announcement last week that Hostgator will now be the host of choice for the Plug-In Profit site. Unlike the last time he did this, Host4Profit will no longer remain an option.

I think this is a good move as Hostgator hosting is much more affordable, allows you to host as many domains as you like for less than $10, it has the more widely used cpanel rather than webepanel AND it pays $50 commission per hosting account.

If you have not done so already, the most important thing for you to do now is:

1) Register for the Hostgator affiliate program (this is free)
2) Login to your Plug-In Profit Site affiliate account, click the account link on the top left and enter your Hostgator affiliate ID in the box.

The next thing you may want to do is consider whether or not you would like to stay with Host4profit as a web host OR move to Hostgator.

If you are on a tight budget and you have never referred any Host4Profit clients then you may want to move to Hostgator. The benefits of this are:

It costs less than $10 a month (compared to $24.95 for Host4Profit)
You can host unlimited domains on your account (this costs $5 per month per domain with Host4Profit)
They are doing FREE transfers at the moment - this means that they will transfer your website + any scripts and databases that you have installed for you.

If you would like to do this here are some simple instructions:

STEP ONE: Sign Up for a Hostgator Account. I recommend choosing the Baby Plan. When you sign up look out for a coupon code - often they give new customers a 20% discount. The code at the time of writing is SNOWMAN. Do not pick a new domain name when you sign up - use the domain name of your current website.

STEP TWO: Once your account has been setup raise a support ticket with Hostgator and let them know that you want to transfer your website from another host. They will let you know what information you need to do this.

STEP THREE: Contact Host4Profit and ask them for access to your domain name settings. They will give you a login to eNom.com.

STEP FOUR: Login to eNom.com using the username and password that Host4Profit have given you. Click on the Domain Name Servers setup (DNS) and enter the two Hostgator name servers. You will have an email from Hostgator with your name servers in them

STEP FIVE: Once all of the above steps are complete, go to your website and check that everything is all working correctly. Once you are happy that it is all in working order, contact Host4Profit and ask them to cancel your hosting account.

WARNING: If you have at least 2 hosting customers with Host4Profit ($20 commission per month or more) then it is not worth your while moving to Hostgator, as Host4Profit will reduce your commissions from $10 a month per customer to $2.50 per month per customer.

Build Your List Using Free Giveaway Events

Today I am going to talk about a fantastic way to build your list - Free Giveaway Events.

Free Giveaway events work like this:

Stage One - A free giveaway event launches and if you are a list owner you can sign up as a "JV Partner" and offer a free report, free Ebook or another free gift in return for an optin. It costs nothing to do this and if you don't have anything to give away, don't worry - I have a solution for that!

Stage Two - The giveaway event opens and everyone invites people to register for free and download gifts. If someone wants to download your gift they need to register for your list first.

The last giveaway event I participated in resulted in over 200 new subscribers for me over the course of a week. Not too bad for something that took me less than an hour to set up!

If this sounds like a good idea to you here are some step by step instructions to help you do exactly the same:

1) First you need to register for a current giveaway event. Join one of the latest JV giveaway events here. There is no cost to join. You will be offered an upgrade, which will result in more subscribers for you, but this is optional. If your budget is low, choose the free option.

2) Next you need to find something to giveaway. If you want you can use Dotcomology, but it is better to find something more original to give away. I recommend opening a free account at Sure Fire Wealth as they provide hundreds of free downloads. Alternatively you can use my lead capture page service and I will build you a lead capture capture page and download page with 6 great EBooks.

3) Once you have found something to giveaway, upload it to your website. You can do this by going to your cpanel and using the "File Manager". Upload your file, which will probably be either a .PDF file or a .zip file. The download link to your item will be http://www.yoursite.com/yourfile.pdf (where yoursite.com is your domain name and yourfile.pdf is the name of your giveaway file that you just uploaded.

4) By following the above steps you should find that you get some signups to your newsletter if you offer a decent gift. If you want to increase your subscribers even more you can also consider promoting the giveaway using the affiliate link that they give you and/or upgrading to get more exposure for your offer.

Hopefully all of the above won't take you any longer than an hour and the result will be new subscribers to your list who could potentially go on to sign up for something or purchase something from your website!

Using Traffic Exchanges to Promote Your Website

Have you considered using traffic exchanges to advertise your website, the Plug-In Profit Site opportunity or to build your list? Traffic exchanges are a free and easy way to promote your site and it doesn't take much time to get started.

You can get good results using traffic exchanges, but most people go about it the WRONG way.

If you are advertising a long sales page, your home page or an expensive product in the traffic exchanges it is unlikely that you will get good results. The reason for this is that most traffic exchange users are surfing to earn credits, not to buy. They don't have time to read long pages.

To use traffic exchanges effectively you need to:

1) Make sure your offer grabs the attention of the surfer. It should be short, snappy and interesting

2) Capture the visitor's email address. Ideally entice people to sign up to your list, perhaps in exchange for a free report or EBook.

3) Track your results. If you are not getting a response do something different e.g. advertise a different page instead. Don't just keep on advertising the same page aimlessly!

4) Surf at least 5 traffic exchanges at the same time using tabbed browsing. This will earn you credits 5 times faster!

5) Build your downline. All traffic exchanges will give you benefits such as additional credits when you refer someone, which means that you won’t have to spend as much time surfing.

Ok, so now that's out of the way, here is a PLAN OF ACTION for you to build a big downline from the traffic exchanges AND get some signups to your list :-) This plan will take around 1-2 hours to follow through initially and then 20-30 minutes per day. There is nothing to buy.

ACTION STEP 1:

If you don’t know what a traffic exchange is take a quick read of my short Introduction to Traffic Exchanges.

ACTION STEP 2:

Join Traffic Hoopla. This is a downline builder for traffic exchanges and it is FREE to join. This will show you the current top traffic exchanges.

ACTION STEP 3:

Login to your Traffic Hoopla account and click on "1st Join". This will show you the current TOP 5 traffic exchanges. Join each of these (they are all free) and put your referral ID in the spaces provided by Traffic Hoopla. You may want to consider joining the "2nd Join" as well, but leave that for another day - you don't want to overwhelm yourself!

ACTION STEP 4:

The next step is a little bit more time consuming and will probably take you about 1-2 hours. You need to learn a little bit about each of the 5 traffic exchanges that you have joined. By this I mean learn how to add your site, how to surf and how many credits you will get for surfing and referring.

You will need to enter a website URL to promote for each traffic exchange and you will normally have to surf around 10-20 pages to activate your account.

For the website, you need to choose something that is going to work well in a traffic exchanges. The choice is yours but here are some suggestions.

1) Promote a lead capture page. I currently promote this lead capture page and this one and I receive regular optins to my lists. If you don't have a lead capture page you may want to consider my lead capture page service OR use one of the standard PIPS optin pages. The address for the PIPS page is http://www.pluginprofitsite.com/main-4231/pop1.html (replace 4231 with your own PIPS ID and use anything from pop1.html up to pop11.html)

2) Promote Traffic Hoopla. This will help you to build your downline in the traffic exchanges. Traffic Hoopla have a few different splash pages for use in the traffic exchanges. To find the splash pages login to Traffic Hoopla and click the link on the home page that says “you may also use these pages”

3) Promote a free business opportunity. My favorite free business opportunity is Cash Crate. You can see the Cash Crate splash page that I use here and I can create one like this for you free of charge. Another program you could promote is SFI.

ACTION STEP 5:

On a daily basis, open 6 tabs inside a browser and spend about 20-30 minutes surfing all 5 of these traffic exchanges at one time. Move between each of the tabs, clicking the next button to view the next page. This will earn you credits and as you earn credits your own websites will be shown.

Repeat step 5 as often as possible. Your credits will grow and you will get more exposure. At the same time your downline should grow and you will be able to surf less as you will earn credits from your downline.

Traffic exchanges were one of the first advertising methods that I used when I started internet marketing back in 2004. As a result I have hundreds of people in my downlines for these exchanges and I never need to surf myself. If you work on this you can easily find yourself in the same situation!

7 Ways to Reduce Your Plug-In Profit Site Expenses

If you want to reduce your Plug-In Profit Site expenses, you need to remember that:

You are in control of your budget and how much you spend
Most expenses are OPTIONAL for the Plug-In Profit Site apart from your hosting and your domain name.
There are plenty of very effective FREE ways to promote your website so you do not need to pay for expensive advertising

With that in mind here are some ways that you can reduce your Plug-In Profit Site expenses:

1) If there are certain programs that you are not making money from, consider temporarily dropping these programs to save on your monthly fees. You can easily sign up for these in the future when you are getting regularl Plug-In Profit Site signups.

2) If you are trying a form of paid advertising, try it for the minimum amount of time possible. E.g. if the advertising has a monthly, quarterly or yearly option, choose the monthly one. Check your results after one month and if it doesn't work, drop it! Don't blindly sign up for something for a year if you have never tried it before. Many people have made this mistake with the PIPS co-op - signed up for a whole year, discovered after a month that it is not an effective way to get signups and been unable to get a refund.

3) Set a monthly advertising budget and stick to it. Whether you have a zero advertising budget or a $100 budget, make sure you stick to it. Decide what you can afford on a monthly basis and only increase that if your situation changes (e.g. when you start making a profit or you have more money available to invest in your business).

4) Remember business expenses are tax deductable. This will vary from country to country, but usually anything that you spend on your business is tax deductable. Speak to your accountant to find our more about this.

5) Become an expert in Free Advertising Methods. There are so many effective free methods of advertising. Article Marketing, Blogging, SEO, Free Classifieds, Press releases, forum marketing, directory submission, social marketing and more. Become an expert in one or two of these free methods. Learn as much as possible about them, take action and make them work for you.

6) Consider changing to a less expensive web host. Host4Profit is expensive at $25 per month. If you have been with Host4Profit for at least 3 months, you can change hosts and still promote the Host4Profit affiliate program. My #1 recommended host is Hostgator - they charge less than $10 a month for hosting for unlimited disk space, bandwidth and domain names. Sign up with Hostgator and if you are a new customer they will also transfer your site over for free. At the time of writing they also have a 20% off coupon code "AUTUMN"

7) Consider mentoring. A mentor who has been there and done it before you can be very effective at making your business successful and helping you to save money. Use IMReportCard to get some backlinks and earn cash

I recently came across a nice website called IM Report Card which is dedicated to providing honest reviews of internet marketing products and services.

IM Report Card is free to join and you will find it useful in a few different ways:

1) If you are thinking of purchasing a product or a service you can read unbiased reviews and comments.

2) You can leave your own comments and get paid for doing so! They are currently paying 50 cents or more per comment that you leave. You will also receive 10c for rating a product and bonus credits for referring other people.

3) You can create an online profile and get backlinks to your website. Every time you leave a comment a "signature" is left at the end of the comment with a link to your profile and the text and links of your choice.

So if you have positive or negative experience of any internet marketing products or services why not leave your comments and get paid for it!

If you search for "Stone Evans" you will find a review of Stone and the Plug-In Profit Site so this would be a good place to start. You can also recommend a product or service that is not already listed and receive 75 cents for your suggestion.

My Blog Gets a Makeover with a Premium Blogger Template

You may notice that my blog has had a makeover. It is looking a bit sexier... A bit more professional... Not quite as boring. I've just installed a premium blogger template and it has made a huge difference.

I was having a bit of a dilemma as I set this blog up back in 2005, before I knew anything about WordPress. I much prefer WordPress to Blogger - more flexibity, so many great themes and plugins and it is so search engine friendly.

Whenever I set up a new blog these days I always use WordPress, without a doubt. However, I decided to keep this blog as a blogger blog because I get a decent amount of daily traffic to the individual blog posts and I didn't want to risk losing that (changing to WordPress would have changed all the URLs aka permalinks).

I had a hunt on the internet for something similar to WordPress Revolution themes - something a bit wider and more professional looking. I came across eBlog Templates who have a section selling premium blogger templates and found a WordPress Church theme that had been converted to Blogger.

$20 and about two hours later I had everything setup! I've not perfected everything yet, but I think it is a great improvement on the previous look. The template was easy to setup, no techie stuff required and they had step by step videos explaining how to do it.

So if you are looking for a premium blogger template I'd highly recommend eBlog Templates. The only downside is that you can't use them if you are FTP publishing to your website (since the FTP publishing doesn't support Blogger Layouts).

How to Promote GDI

A lot of people have been asking me recently "How do I promote GDI", in particular since GDI was added to the Plug-In Profit Site very recently.

In this post I will try to answer this question and give a few ideas for promoting GDI. These will include both free and paid methods of promotion.

Here are 10 different ways to promote GDI (Global Domains International).

1) Use the Plug-In Profit Site to promote GDI - if you have a Plug-In Profit site you can just continue to promote your site and the Plug-In Profit Site (PIPS) opportunity in the normal way. When someone signs up for PIPS they will also signup under you for GDI. (Cost - $24.95 per month for a Plug-In Profit Site).

2) Write a review of GDI - if you have a blog or a website, why not write a review of GDI? Give your own personal opinion of the opportunity, what the commission are, what benefits you get and what the positives and negatives are. Many people search for reviews of business opportunities before they sign up, so by writing a review you have a very good chance of getting someone who is in the buying mood! Start a blog for free at Blogger.com if you don't already have one. (FREE).

3) Use GDI's DVDs - this is GDI's own recommended way of marketing the opportunity. They have various strategies for this including handing out DVDs to people on a daily basis (face to face marketing), mailing DVDs to people, using GDI's leads packages & DVDs. There is a comprehensive PDF guide to this marketing method you can download it here. (COST - $2.95 per DVD + approx $3 shipping for US citizens)

4) Use Article Marketing - you could write a short article either about GDI itself or a general article about work from home/ home business opportunities. Add an author resource box to the end of the article and include a link to your GDI signup page. Post this article to online article directories. Make sure your article is informative and not an advertisement (FREE)

5) Join the Home Income Team - The Home Income Team (HIT) is free to join and they provide a downline builder (including GDI), lots of great splash pages to market in the traffic exchanges, free training and a free website builder. Join HIT, add your ID to the downline builder and start following their training (FREE).

6) Forum Marketing - hang out in home business or work from home related forums that allow you to have a signature after your posts. Don't spam the forum - just ask and answer questions, be helpful and friendly. Add the GDI opportunity to your signature and once you have established a reputation people may decide to join GDI through you. (FREE)

7) Classifeds - you can post classified ads online and offline and there are hundreds of thousands of places on and off the internet to do this in. Anything from shop window ads & newspaper ads, to online classified websites. Search on Google for places to post classified ads and you will be spoilt for choice. (FREE & PAID options).

8) Traffic Exchanges - there are hundreds of traffic exchanges where you can surf to earn credits and promote your own opportunities with these credits. If you are going to use this strategy I recommend you join the Home Income Team as described in 5) above as they have lots of good splash pages. (FREE)

9) Email Signature - how many emails do you send out per day? Why not add a signature to all your personal emails promoting the GDI opportunity? Most email programs allow you to add a signature automatically. (FREE)

10) Business Cards - order business cards from GDI and carry them around with you. You can give them out to people you meet, leave them on noticeboards and put them in mail that you send. (COST - from $27 for 250 business cards).

Review of Lawn Chair Millionaire

Here is an honest review of Lawn Chair Millionaire to help you make up your mind.

How much does it cost?

The cost is $29.99 per month, but there is an additional one time admin fee of $49.99 when you join. So it is going to cost $79.98 for your first month and $29.99 thereafter.

What is the Commission Structure?

If someone joins LCM under your link you receive an instant $20 bonus. If the remain a member you will receive a $15 commission for every month that they are a member.

My commission for the month of May 09 (my first full month) was $425.51 (see below for screenshot)

You are also guaranteed commissions in your first three months of being a member. The exact amount is dependent on what the value of a "Moneyline Pool Share" is, but for me it was $13.02 for the first month, $15.51 for the second month and $18.32 for the third month (see screenshot below)

I made good commission from Lawn Chair Millionaire in the first few months while it was part of the Plug-In Profit site, but after that it was removed from the Plug-In Profit Site and commissions dwindled. I decided not to promote it as I felt that the product (money making and gambling systems) was very questionable.

What do I get as a member of Lawn Chair Millionaire?

Access to something called a "Vault". The vault contains various methods for making money including:

- SoccerMaestro, an online betting system
- 60 Minute Trader, a stock market trading system
- Smart Cash System, a way to make money on the Sports market
- MyAutoForex - another way of making money with FOREX
- A place to add your own custom opportunity for your downline to see

None of the above really interested me, so I didn't go into any great depth with any of the vault items and decided to concentrate on promoting the business opportunity instead.

What payment methods do they accept?

All major credit cards are accepted.

How to I get paid?

You get paid via AlertPay. AlertPay is very similar to Paypal in that it lets you send and receive money via email and you can link it up to your bank account or credit card. It is free to open an AlertPay account.

What Support is offered?

Lawn Chair Millionaire have a ticket based system for support requests and an FAQ. I have used their ticket system once and received a reply pretty quickly.

Am I tied in?

No - you can cancel at any time.

Positives

+ High commissions - the $20 and then $15 per month per member means that you need only refer two customers to pay for your membership

+ Receive Commissions for the first 3 months even if you don't refer anyone (makes it easier to get started.

+ They pay on time

Any Negatives?

- I really struggle to see the value of the LCM product and how it is useful to regular people. I do not think the product is worth $29.95

- The Vault programs not for everyone. Only if you are interested in betting/gambling.

- Lots of menus inside the members area can make things confusing initially

- $49.95 admin fee required to join

My Verdict & recommendation:

I do not recommend Lawn Chario Millionaire mainly because of the unattractive product.

I recommend My World Plus rather than Lawn Chair Millionaire. You can read a full My World Plus review here.

My World Plus has a much better product that can be used by anyone. It is also cheaper to run at just $19.95 per month, has a better conversion rate, better training and the commissions are higher.

GDI added to the Plug-In Profit Site

A while ago Stone made a promise that he wouldn't change any program in the Plug-In Profit Site unless it became defunct. He has just made a post in the PIPS Support forum to say that he is unable to keep that promise.

You can read this post here. Change can be hard, but as I say in my reply to that post, I think change is fine for most of us as long as we are all informed of these changes and understand the reasoning behind them.

The latest change in the Plug-In Profit Site is the addition of Global Domains International (GDI) in place of Traffic Swarm. I have to say that I am surprised at the removal of Traffic Swarm as it has been a part of the Plug-In Profit site since I joined over 5 years ago, but Stone's reasoning behind this decision is that Traffic Swarm is not very profitable as an income stream. I would have to agree with that one, as my commissions from Traffic Swarm have always been less than $100 per month.

I have been a member of GDI for a few years now and it is a good stable program. It has been around for a long time and is very popular. You may even be a member already and if you are the first thing you need to do is login to the PIPS affiliate center, click on the account link at the top right and enter your ID.

If you are not a member of GDI you probably want to make a decision about whether or not you want to join it. I feel like a broken record now as I've said this so many times, but you need to remember that this is your business, your decision and it is entirely up to you if you join GDI or not. You don't have to join GDI if for example you do not like the program, or if you cannot afford it

The cost of GDI is $10 per month. You can sign up for a free trial for 7 days to see if you like it. If you don't, as long as you cancel before the end of your trial you will not be charged. The commission structure is pretty easy to understand. You get $1 recurring monthly commission for everyone you refer, but you also get $1 for every spillover from your upline and $1 for everyone recruited by your downline. They also have leaderboards with big bonuses for the top recruiters, but you do need to use the GDI DVDs as part of your promotional strategy to qualify for these bonuses.

I have never promoted GDI very much - it appears only on one or two pages on my website, but despite this (and thanks to an active downline) I usually get a couple of hundred dollars recurring commission per month from it.

NOTE -these instructions apply to Host4Profit. If you have a different host these instructions will not apply to you.

It is important to make a regular backup of your Plug-In Profit Site, especially if you are making regular changes to it, or blogging on a regular basis.

How often you backup depends on how often you make changes to your website. If you are only making changes once every month or two, then it is perfectly acceptable to make a backup once a month or once every two months. However, if you are frequently making changes e.g. blogging a few times a week or adding new pages to your website regularly, then you will want to back up your site once every week or two.

Luckily making a backup is very quick and it is also very easy, even if you have never made any changes to your website before.

Here is what you need to do:

(1) Log into your Host4Profit WEBEPanel. You will find this at http://www.yourdomain/menu - that’s just the URL of your website with “/menu” on the end. You will need to use your username and password that you received by email from Host4Profit to log into the WEBEPanel. If you can’t find this, send an email to Host4Profit support.

(2) Once you have logged in you will see a menu screen. To make a backup of your site, just click on the “Website Backup Manager” icon.

(3) Next, select the “ZIP file format” and click on the “Create my website Backup” button. You will then be taken to a page with a link. Just click on that link to download the zip file to your computer.

(4) Once you have downloaded the backup on to your PC you should extract the files from it just to double check that it hasn't been corrupted during the download.

(5) That's it! You're done :-)

In addition to this, if you ever make any changes to your home page or anther page on your site, make a backup BEFORE doing this. If you screw up your site you will thank yourself that you have taken the time to backup!

Lawn Chair Millionaire added to the Plug-In Profit Site

I made a post earlier today about Success University being removed from the Plug-In Profit Site.

This post will concentrate on the brand new program that has just been added to PIPS - Lawn Chair Millionaire.

Lawn Chair Millionaire (LCM) is replacing Success University as one of the income streams in the Plug-In Profit Site. Whether or not you actually decide to join this program is entirely up to you - it is optional, so if you don't feel that you have the budget for it then you should hold off joining for the time being.

I only joined Lawn Chair Millionaire myself yesterday, so it is too early for me to write a full review of it right now, so I will save that for a future post.

What I will do now is give you the low-down on what I have discovered so far, to help you to decide whether or not it is right for you.

Cost and Commissions

Most importantly, the first thing I will talk about is money. How much does it cost to join and how much do you get paid?

The joining costs are pretty straightforward - it is $49.95 admin fee to join and there is a monthly fee of $29.95 per month. So the monthly cost is more than $20 less than SU, but the admin fee makes the initial payment a bit more expensive.

As for the commissions, I was surprised to receive an email after 1 day to say that I had been paid $13.02 from the month one bonus pool. This was before I had had the chance to actually do any advertising, so it is encouraging to know that people are going to get some commissions regardless of whether or not they manage to sponsor anyone. The email also told me that my month 2 earnings were $15.51 and month 3 was $18.32 and these numbers would increase.

The commissions for personally sponsoring a new member into the Lawn Chair Millionaire also look good. Like Empowerism they have a $20 fast start bonus every time you sponsor a new member. There is also a $15 monthly commission for as long as that person remains a member of LCM.

There are also various bonuses and pools to allow you to earn some additional commissions.

Product

The LCM product is access to a "Vault" that contains various methods of making money online. The methods inclue Forex, Online Trading, Soccer Betting and a few others. I haven't had time to look into these in any detail yet, but participation in these methods is optional.

Marketing Tools

In the member center there is access to a wide range of banners. There is also a campaign tracker to allow you to track your advertising and there is lots of information on email advertising, ezine advertising, viral marketing, list building and pay per click advertising.

Cancelation Policies

The administration fee that you pay to join is non refundable, but they will refund your monthly fee if you decide that the opportunity is not for you.

Success University Dropped from the Plug-In Profit Site

I've lost count of the number of times that Success University has been in and out of the Plug-In Profit Site, but it looks like this time it is out for good.

Stone made the announcement over in the Plug-In Profit Support forum a couple of days ago. My initial reaction before I actually read the post was "What about the promise he made...?". If you have been with the Plug-In Profit site for more than a few months you will remember that he made a promise not to change any of the core programs unless one of them becomes defunct.

After reading his post, I could understand why he has decided to make the decision to remove Success University.

1) They are merging with a travel company
2) They are removing the $2 2-week trial
3) The price to join will be increasing. I believe it is going to be $149.95

Stone's decision is based mainly around the fact that he feels the entry price is too high and this could in turn lower the overall conversion rate for the Plug-In Profit Site.

After discovering his reasoning behind this decision, I agree with what he is doing.

BUT... more importantly - what does this mean for you?

If you are currently a member of Success University, you need to decide whether or not to continue promoting it.

Personally, I have decided to continue promoting Success University for now. Matt Morris sent out an email a couple of days ago outlining some interesting changes in the commission structure, so I am curious to see whether or not my commissions increase as a result of this change. In summary the changes are:

Weekly cap increased from $10,000 to $25,000 a week (I would like to say that this makes a difference to me, but I'm not fortunate enough to be pulling $10K a week from SU)
Weekly Cycle payments will increase from $30 to $100 in June (very nice)
If you cycle more than 3 times a week this will increase to $200 (even nicer)
The monthly cap is increased from $40,000 to $50,000 (again, not something that I will see the benefit of)
When you enroll 6 customers your monthly fee will be waived (I like that)
Various new bonuses introduced

So if you are currently a member you may want to consider the above before deciding to quit SU.

The most important thing to remember is that this is your business and your website, so it is entirely up to you what you promote and you don't have to follow anybody else.

If you have never managed to sign anyone else up for Success University and/or your budget is stretched by the $50 a month tuition fee then you probably want to seriously consider dropping SU.

Long time no blog....

It has been over a month since my last blog post - arghhh!!

I think this must happen to everyone from time to time - you are busy with other things and then you just forget to, or don't have time to blog. After receiving a few emails from people wondering if I was ok, I figured it was time to get back into the blogging routine again...

So what have I been doing?

Over the last month or so I have been on vacation to Canada with my husband - visiting my best friend who has emigrated to Montreal, then taking a short trip to Quebec City, where I got engaged a few years ago.

I came back refreshed and raring to get back in to work again.

On my return I worked hard with Ken Troyer and some of the other mentors over at the PIPS Power Group to make our other mentoring site the Niche Power Group much much better.

Making your Plug-In Profit Site Unique

As a Plug-In Profit Site owner your site will start out the same as every other Plug-In Profit site member.

At the moment the Plug-In Profit site looks like this example site but I strongly recommend spending some time making your website your own, particularly if your aim is to eventually get lots of traffic from the search engines.

There are two main benefits to doing this:

(1) You are branding yourself, not Stone
(2) You have a much better chance of a good search engine ranking as your home page content will not be filtered as duplicate content

When I say "make your site your own" I am not talking about the look of the website, the color of the site, or the banners and graphics. I am talking about the actual words on the page.

When search engines read your website they don't care about what it looks like - all they understand is the words on your webpage. If these words are identical to lots of other website, then it will be more difficult or impossible to get a good ranking for your site in the search engines.

Search engines put their customers first and their customers would be very frustrated if the search engines gave them identical pages of content whenever they searched for something. This is called the "duplicate content filter". Some people call it a "penalty", but your site is not really being penalised, it is just being filtered out of the results.

I recommend making the following changes to your website as soon as possible:

(1) Add your own unique introductory paragraph or two. This doesn't have to be lengthy - a welcome message to your visitors, a bit about yourself and a summary of what people can find on your site, or what benefit they will get from visiting your site will do fine.

(2) Remove Stone's feature article and replace it with a unique article that you have written yourself (or had ghostwritten). This article must be unique and should never be published anywhere else (e.g. article directories). The article doesn't have to be long - 400-600 words is ideal

Doing these change will ensure that your site does not get filtered in the search engine results and it will help to make your website stand out from the other standard Plug-In Profit Sites. You can read my post on making changes to your Plug-In Profit Site to find out more about this.

More Changes to the Plug-In Profit Site and a Promise from Stone

In the last week or so Stone has made some further changes to the Plug-In Profit Site.

(1) Success University has been added back in - I am very happy about this change, as I love Success University, particularly the fantastic training courses and their excellent commission plan. If you want to know more about Success University or have any questions please feel free to contact me. If you are already a member make sure that you have logged into the PIPS Affiliate center and added your ID.

(2) Hostgator has been removed - Stone had thought that providing a cheaper option for hosting would increase conversion rates but it didn't, so he has decided to remove this to avoid any confusion for people signing up. I am disappointed about this particular change as I really like Hosgator - I host 5 of my own websites there and have done for a few years and the affiliate commissions are good. But, I understand the reasoning behind the decision. If you have decided to move to Hostgator yourself, don't worry about this as moving hosts won't have any negative impact on you. If you still want to move to Hostgator to save money, you can do, but you should remain at Host4Profit for at least 3 months so that you can still promote their affiliate program. Contact me if you have any questions about this or want help with changing host.

Whether you like or dislike the above changes, remember that it is up to you which programs you promote. You can remove programs from your website if you do not want to promote them. You can add additional programs to your site if you want to. You cannot changes the PIPS sales page, but your site is your own and you can do whatever you like with it!

The good news is that Stone has made a promise to members that he will not change the core programs of the Pliug-In Profit Site again, unless a program becomes defunct.

Here is what Stone said in the forum:

".....Before I do that, I want to make you a promise.

This is something I've never done before.PIPS has matured and it's time for long-term stability without question of where the program is headed.

The core 6 programs that are part of signing up for PIPS (Web Prosperity, SFI, Traffic Swarm, Success University, Empowerism and Host4Profit), will not be changed, swapped out or removed EVER AGAIN - unless one of these programs goes defunct. Again, I have never made this promise and I guarantee you I will keep it."

So the Plug-In Profit Site will include Host4Profit, SFI, Traffic Swarm, Success University and Web Prosperity for the foreseeable future. I am very happy about that!

Stone has made yet another change to the Plug-In Profit site!

He has added Hostgator as an option for web hosting.

Personally, I think this is a great decision. A lot of people are on a tight budget, especially in today's economy and can't afford the $24.95 per month that Host4profit charge. I have hosted 5 of my websites with Hostgator for a few years now and have been very happy with them.

Hostgator provides hosting for $8.95 per month if you sign up for their "Hatchling" plan and this can go down to as little as $4.95 per month if you choose to pay for multiple months in advance.

I think that this will help to improve the conversion rate (signup rate) of the Plug-In Profit site, so hopefully this will be good news for all of us.

Here's what you need to do asap:

(1) Join the Hostgator affiliate program. This affiliate program is free to join and you can sign up here. It pays a one time $50-$125 commission per sale:

(2) Login to the Plug-In Profit Site affiliate center and click on the "account" button on the top left of the page. You can then enter your HostGator affiliate ID. This will update your sales page.

I personally like Host4Profit and their excellent support, but a few people have asked me about moving their website to HostGator to save some money. If you are on a tight budget, you may benefit from using Hostgator rather than Host4Profit as you will save more than $15 per month.

If you are thinking of doing this, beware... you need to know the following:

Changing hosts involves pointing your domain name to the new name servers and also transferring all your files to the new web host.
If you have a Wordpress blog or any applications that use a database then you will also need to reinstall these applications and back up your database and reinstate it on the new host.
If you have been a member of Host4Profit for less than 3 months you will not be able to continue as a member of the affiliate program

If moving hosts to save money is something that you want to do, just send me an email with your domain name (URL) and I can give you some advice on this.

Success University Removed from PIPS

What does this mean for you?

Well, you need to remember that your site is your own and you can leave it as it is or change it. It is entirely up to you.

You can....

Do nothing and continue to promote Success University if you like it OR
Drop Success University and join Web Prosperity OR
Stay with Success University and join Web Prosperity

The decision is yours.

I decided to stick with Success University because I like it, it has a great product and it makes me a good income. I also enjoy watching/listening to the monthly CDs and DVDs that they send every month.

I signed up with Web Prosperity at the pre-launch stage back in December before the products were made available and although I have made just over $200 from it for the month of January I have decided not to promote this on my website any more as I feel that the product quality is very poor. I will remain a member for the time being and see if the products improve, but if you are planning on joining for the use of their products you will probably be very disappointed.

If you want to increase your income streams, I recommend Empowerism instead as it has a better compensation plan and a lot of useful products within the site.

If you decide to drop Success University and would like help removing it from your website I can remove one program for for free for any customer ordering any service from my PIPS Update Services website.

Similarly, if you want to join an additional program, I can provide a complimentary addition of banners and links to your site to promote this program if you sign up through me. Just send me an email.

The most important thing is to do what you feel is right for yourself. You don't have to follow anyone else.

Can you run a Plug-In Profit Site on a Budget

Today I am going to talk about running the Plug-In Profit Site on a budget.

I have seen many posts in the Plug-In Profit forum that say things like "I've spend thousands of dollars and haven't made a dime" or "I've been doing this for 2 months, spent all my money and I'm going to quit!

Spending money doesn't equate to success and I actually recommend holding back on spending any money on marketing until you have done a bit of learning and understand things a little better.

The minimum cost of running a Plug-In Profit Site is $24.95 per month for web hosting and $15 per year for your domain name. If you don't have this money to spend, then the Plug-In Profit site is not for you.

If your marketing budget is zero then I recommend the following plan of action:

ZERO BUDGET - PLAN OF ACTION

One Time Tasks:
(1) Choose some keywords for your website and include these keywords on your home page. You will need to learn a little bit of HTML and a little bit about SEO. You can sign up for my free SEO Email Course here and download my free SEO Guide for the Plug-In Profit Site here.

(2) Create an account with a free service such as OnlyWire and register with all the social bookmarking sites (should take 2hrs and you only need to do it once).

(3) Start a blog on Blogger and transfer it to your website using these instructions. If you are technically minded set up a Wordpress blog on your site instead.

Regular Weekly Tasks:

(1) Write two short articles per week. The article should be 400-500 words long and should be on the topic of home business, making money, working from home. Add an author resource box at the end of the article that includes a link to your website and your blog. If you can't manage 2 articles, do 1 instead.

(2) Submit each of your articles to article directories (search Google for "article directories" to find these). This will get you links to your site (helps your search engine rank) and potentially some visitors who read your article and follow the link to your website.

(3) Write 2-3 short blog posts per week. They can be around 100-300 words. If you don't have a blog start one at http://www.blogger.com/

(4) Use the social bookmarking tool mentioned above (OnlyWire) to bookmark each blog post after you have made it. This will get you some links to your blog post (backlinks) and may get you a surge of traffic if your post was interesting.

This is a simple plan and should only take you around 1 hour per day, or 6-7 hours per week. It costs absolutely nothing and if you continue to follow this plan for a few months you will see your traffic grow.

The important thing is to be persistent and focused. Don't start doing any other marketing until you have completed these tasks each week.

Backlink Building - Part One

This blog post is part of a series of getting backlinks to your website.

A backlink is simply a link from another website to your website and it has the benefit of pushing your website up in the search engine rankings.

To get the most benefit from backlinks you should make sure that you have chosen some good keywords and optimized your website. If you are not sure how to do this register for my free ABCs of SEO Email Course OR order the Plug-In Profit Site SEO Update.

The most common ways to get backlinks are by:

Writing articles containing a resource box with your URL and distributing them
Posting in forums that allow a link in your signature
Submitting your website to directories
Exchanging Links
Commenting on peoples' blogs

All these methods are well documented online and most webmasters know that these are excellent ways to get backlinks.

In this series of backlink building blog posts over the next few months I will share some other ways to get backlinks that you may not have thought of before.

Hopefully each time you read a backlink building post of mine you can go ahead and use this method to get a backlink as soon as you have finished reading.

Today's backlink technique is Qassia.

Qassia is a popular site with a high page rank that allows you to create an account and add information known as "Intel". Intel is basically knowledge and can be about anything you like from people, to places, companies, business, hobbies - whatever you want to write about. You can write content that has been published before or unique unpublished content.

Each piece of content you add is unedited and gets rated by users. Benefits for you include:

(1) A good quality backlink for your website (for each piece of intel added)

(2) 100% of the revenue generated from any of your intel pages

Next, set up your profile (don't forget to include your website URL and your photo).

Whenever you do something new, like make a blog post or write an article, or if something exciting has just happened, enter a quick update of a few words in Twitter and include a relevant URL (optional).

The powerful part is that you can choose to follow other people to be kept up to date with what they are doing and other people will follow you.

In the internet marketing environment this is ideal as you can announce to everyone whenever something important happens.

Promote the Plug-In Profit Site using Ebay Classifieds

I'm always looking for new ways to promote the Plug-In Profit site or get more subscribers on my list.

One way that you may not have considered before is by using Ebay!

I've recently finished reading Tracey Edward's Ebook Auction Classified Cash, which is all about how to make money using classified ads on Ebay.

Her book explains in simple steps how you can get traffic to your website, build your mailing list or sell affiliate products using Ebay Classified Ads.

In the US, a classified ad for a month on Ebay costs $9.99 and since Ebay is one of the most popular websites on the internet, with thousands of buyers visiting every month it made sense to me, however I wasn't quite sure how to do it until now.

I used the instructions in this book to create a classified ad to entice people to join my PIPS newsletter and this ad is currently running in Ebay, receiving clicks and I am getting new subscribers to my newsletter from the ad.

In my opinion it is a very economical way to build your list and is something a bit different from all the other list building techniques.

What is the Best Way to Submit your Articles?

Writing an article with an author resource box promoting your website, and then submitting that article to lots of article directories is one of the best website promotion methods that I know of.

The added advantage is that this method is also free to do. Even if you can't or don't want to write your own articles, article submission is still a very low cost method of advertising as you can get articles ghostwritten for you at around $10 an article.

The benefits of writing articles include:

backlinks to your website (helps your search engine ranking)
establishes your reputation
readers of the article may visit your website

You can use one of three methods to submit your articles:

Manual Submission (free, but time consuming)
Submission software (faster and a one time charge)
Submission service (fastest method, usually a monthly charge)

I decided to do a test to determine the best method of submitting my articles. In this test I used three submission methods:

Article Post Robot (submission software)

Article Marketer (submission service)

Submit Your Article (another submission service)

I also tested submission of the same article to all directories versus the submission of an article with random variations (i.e. multiple variations of the same article). The purpose of this was to test the theory that varying the article submitted resulted in more backlinks.

First, here is a summary of each of the three ways to submit your article, the cost, ease of use and effectiveness.

(1) Article Post Robot

Cost - $127 (one time fee)

Features - this software provides over 400 directories to submit to and over 50 mailing lists. The initial setup is time consuming as you need to register with a lot of directories, but this is a one time exercise. It takes around half an hour to enter your article and all the details plus an extra half an hour if you want to add additional titles, resource boxes, sentences/paragraphs and summaries to be rotated randomly. There is an option of using automatic submission where you just leave the software running on your computer, submitting the articles on your behalf, or if you want more control you can review each form after the software has filled it in and submit it semi manually.

Pros - large number of directories to submit to, easy to create variations of your article, one time cost only

Cons - initial set up can be time consuming (registering with all the necessary article directories)

(2) Article Marketer

Cost - $99.99 per quarter, $269.99 per year or $599.99 lifetime for unlimited articles

Features - Article Marketer allows you to submit unlimited articles to article directories and email lists. For those on a budget they have a free version that submits to a small number of directories, or you can go for their paid version with a wider distribution. Adding your article is quite simple and once you press the submit button the distribution is automatic.

Pros - Easy to submit your article; No limit to the number of articles you can submit

Cons - it can often take a few tries to have your article approved due to the various "Insta Edit" automatic checks and human reviews; There is no way to create multiple versions of the same article.

(3) Submit Your Article

Cost - $37 per month for up to eight articles each month

Features - Submit Your Article (SYA) allows you to submit up to eight articles per month and each article can either be submitted as is, or you can use their "Article Leverage" feature. Article Leverage allows you to easily create variations of your article by entering alternative article titles, paragraphs, sentences and resource boxes. You can add as little or as many variations as you like and SYA will randomly interchange them and automatically submit different versions of your article. I was able to submit an article using the article leverage feature within half an hour.

Pros - very quick and easy to use, article leverage feature is also very good

Cons - limit of 8 articles per month, monthly fee

As an experiment I submitteed

One Article using Article Marketer
One Article using Submit Your Article
One Article using Article Post Robot
One Article using Submit Your Article with Article Leverage
One Article using Article Post Robot with the feature to create multiple versions

My aim was to find out:

which submission method was the best in terms of distribution, value for money, ease of use
if writing multiple versions of the same article was worth the effort (i.e. did I get more backlinks or not?)
does submitting to more directories really mean more backlinks?

Each article was submitted with a unique sentence within it that could not currently be found in Google. This allowed me to check after one week, two weeks and a month, how many pages with my article had been indexed.

At the end of the experiement here is how many indexed backlinks that I had for each of the methods after one month.

Article Marketer - 9 backlinks
Submit Your Article - 7 backlinks
Article Post Robot - 25 backlinks
Submit Your Article with Article Leverage - 36 backlinks
Article Post Robot with the feature to create multiple versions - 37 backlinks

From this experiement I can draw two main conclusions:

(1) Submitting your article to more directories DOES increase the number of backlinks, even when the article is not changed in any way. I say this because my Article Post Robot submission submitted to far more directories than AM or SYA and this article is showing on 3x as many indexed pages in Google.

(2) Creating multiple versions of your article DOES make a difference. If you compare the results of the article that I submitted using Submit Your Article (SYA) above, the number of indexed pages is 36 when I use SYA's Article Leverage and only 9 when I don't use this.

I hope you find this useful when deciding which article distribution method to choose.

My main recommendations are Submit Your Article for fast and effective distribution using article leverage and Article Post Robot, which takes slightly longer but can distribute to more directories.

Overall I liked Submit Your Article the best and this is the method that I currently use the most to submit my articles.

The Plug-In Profit Site is a popular business opportunity and over 20,000 people have joined over the last 5 years or so. I was one of these people, hungry to make money online but with no idea how to do it.

Four years on, I am a bit older and a bit wiser and I have become one of the lucky few who is earning enough online to quit my job and start working full time in my pajamas.

If you are wondering "is the Plug-In Profit Site right for me?" or "what are the pros and cons of this opportunity?" then this article should help answer your questions.

While this was the perfect opportunity for me to get started with, I do recognize that everyone is different and what worked for me won't necessarily work for you. To help you get a better understanding of this opportunity I will start by summarising what it is all about and then go on to explain what the advantages and disadvantages are.

In a nutshell the Plug-In Profit Site is a home based business opportunities website created by Stone Evans, promoting five different home business programs. At the time of writing these are Host4Profit, Success University, Strong Future International (SFI).

The site is free as long as you host on Host4Profit and you can choose whether to join all five programs or just a subset of them. Some of the opportunities are free to join whilst others charge a fee.

When you apply for a Plug-In Profit Site you will receive a home business website, a series of autoresponder messages to follow up on your subscribers, access to a helpdesk and a member support forum plus a "30 days to success" training guide.

Advantages of the Plug-In Profit Site

(1) Residual Income - all the programs promoted on the Plug-In Profit Site pay residual income which means that by making one sale you can receive a commission every month. An example of this is Host4Profit hosting, which pays $10 commission per month for every customer you sign up, for as long as they remain with Host4Profit.

(2) Website Built within 24hrs - as long as you submit all your information correctly you will receive your website within 24hrs or less. Normally when you build a website there is a long period of research and it takes a lot of time and effort or money to built the site. With the Plug-In Profit site you can get started promoting your site straight away without having to worry about this.

(3) Customizable Site - as long as you know some HTML or are able to use a free website editor such as NVU you can make changes to your website. This could include adding or removing programs, adding an introduction or photo or adding new pages. Alternatively there are affordable services available from various people to enhance your website e.g. by changing the color, adding new pages and products or optimizing it.

(4) Top Notch Support Network - you will receive a day by day training guide, access to a members support forum and a support helpdesk. If it is one on one mentoring you are after then a group caled PIPS Power Group can provide online coaching at an affordable price.

Disadvantages of the Plug-In Profit Site

(1) Many of the programs within the Plug-In profit Site are MLMs (Multi Level Marketing Programs) which means that you will earn a proportion of the commissions for every person that signs up under you. I personally don't see this as a problem but many people do not like MLMs so I have included this as a disadvantage.

(2) You are not going to make money overnight. Unless you are an experienced internet marketer with a well established website or a big list it is unlikely that you will make money overnight or within the first few weeks. There is a learning curve and you will have to spend some time and effort promoting your website.

(3) Some technical knowledge required to change your website - although your website is fully customizable you do need to either learn some basic HTML OR use a web page editor like NVU to make changes to your website. You also have the option of paying someone to make changes to your webiste. If you do not want to make any changes yourself or pay to have someone make changes it will be more difficult to have success with this website.

(4) It is not free - although the site will be built for you for free, the minimum running cost is $15 a year plus $24.95 per month for hosting. If money is tight and you can barely afford to live then this is not for you.

These are the main advantages and disadvantages of the Plug-In Profit site. I hope this balanced review of the Plug-In Profit Site will help you to decide whether this is the right business opportunity for you.

5 Ways to Improve Your Clickbank Earnings

Many people have emailed me recently asking how they can improve their Clickbank Earnings. Clickbank is a great way to make money online because:

(1) It is free to join
(2) The commissions are high - typically 50% but often as much as 75%
(3) There are thousands of products to promote in many different niches

I currently earn over $3000 from Clickbank alone each month and I aim to grow that figure every month.

I am going to share some methods that I currently use to promote Clickbank products. Hopefully you can use some of these tips to help you start earning or increase your Clickbank earnings.

Here are 5 Ways to Improve Your Clickbank Earnings.

(1) Review Products on your website or blog - this is the best way to increase your Clickbank earnings. If you have been involved in internet marketing for any length of time you must have bought one or two products yourself. Write a short, but honest review of the product including an overview of the main features and what you liked and disliked about it. If you include the words "review" and the name of the product in your page or blog title and mention it a few times throughout the page or post there is a good chance people will find your review when searching in the search engines. If you include your Clickbank hoplink and an image of the product there is a good chance that people will buy from you.

(2) Research the Clickbank Marketplace - spend some time on the Clickbank website looking at the products that are available to you. Take a note of your clickbank hoplink for the best selling products in different categories e.g. find the best Paid Surveys product, the best Make Money Ebook, the best Data Entry product, the best keyword research or SEO software and so on. You can recommend these products on your website or blog and also have the links handy to pass on to anyone who asks for a recommendation in an email or a form.

(3) Promote Products to Your List - If you already have an autoresponder series consider adding some promotional letters to your series, or occassional promotional broadcasts. If you visit the pitch page (sales page) for the procuct that you are promoting you will often find that the vendor already has a letter that you can use. If not you could send a review of the product to your list, or you could purchase something like the Clickbank Profit Pack which is a set of prewritten letters for lots of different Clickbank products, all ready to insert into your autoresponder.

(4) Add More Clickbank Products to your Website or Blog - every time you add a new page or make a blog post try to find a Clickbank product that is related to the article that you have just written. This can often be far more effective than just cramming lots and lots of irrelevant product recommendations on to a single page. (5) Article Marketing - another great way to increase your Clickbank earnings is by writing an article and then advertising a related Clickbank product in the author resource box. You may have heard the term "Lead Capture Page", "Splash Page" or "Squeeze Page" before.

If you are not aware of what these terms mean don't worry - a lead capture page or a squeeze page has one specific purpose and that is to capture the email address of the person who is reading the page.

A lead capture page should be short, grab the visitors attention and entice them to submit their name and email address by offering them something of value.

Lead Capture pages work very well in traffic exchanges such as Traffic Swarm, where people are in a hurry, surfing to get credits and don't want to spend a lot of time reading pages.

A few years ago I wasn't having much luck with traffic exchanges, mainly due to the fact that I was advertising long pages (such as the Plug-In Profit sales page and my home page). From then on I changed my strategy and started advertising shorter splash pages. I started achieving much better results from that point and today I still use these types of pages in Traffic Swarm and other traffic exchanges and achieve good results.

Which Plug-In Profit Site Programs Generate the most Income?

When you sign up for a Plug-In Profit Site you can choose which of the programs to join. I recommend joining all of them for maximum earning potential, but since some of them require a monthly payment you may decide initially that you want to keep your monthly payments to a minimum until you are in profit. In this case it is helpful to know which of the Plug-In Profit programs generate the most income.

Here are my experiences - this is based on 4 years of promoting the Plug-In Profit Site.

(1) Clickbank - I currently earn the most money from Clickbank - usually around $2500-$3000 of my monthly income comes from selling Clickbank products alone. Clickbank is free to join so it is great that you can earn an unlimited amount of money here. As well as having Clickbank products on my websites, I also promote them in my newsletter and on my blogs. If you want to increase the number of Clickbank products on your website you may want to consider my Plug-In Profit Content Update Service.

(2) Success University - this is the most expensive program of the 5 but I usually make more money from SU than I do from Empowerism, Host4Profit & SFI. The commission structure that SU uses is very powerful. The downside is that it can take longer to start generating commissions than it does for the other programs, but when you do, it is worthwhile.

(3) Host4Profit - You get $10 a month for every client that signs up for Host4Profit hosting. Every Plug-In Profit site member that signs up through your link must use Host4Profit hosting so this can really add up and it is currently my third best source of income from PIPS.

(4) Empowerism - in a very close 4th place is Empowerism. With their $20 fast start bonus for every new member + $7 a month residual income from each member the commissions can really add up.

(5) SFI - SFI is a good program with good training and the fact that it is free to join makes it easier than all the other programs to get signups for. Unfortunately the payment structure here isn't so good and I usually make less than half with SFI than I do with Empowerism or Host4Profit.

(6) Lastly Traffic Swarm... This is free to join but you can only earn commissions from it if you upgrade to Pro. I make more than enough commissions each month to cover my Pro membership with a fair bit left over but this is the program that earns me the least amount of cash.

The most recent makeover to the site has a few changes including a new video advertising the Plug-In Profit site and a new Clickbank product from Ewen Chia.

If you decide to signup for a Plug-In Profit site this is what your site will look like.

If you already have a Plug-In Profit site you can stick with your original site, change to the new one, or incorporate some of the changes to the new site. The important thing to remember is that your website is 100% yours. Just because the default site has changed this doesn't mean that you have to change your site to. It is entirely up to you.

If you have had customizations done to your site, the only way to add in the features of the new site is by copying and pasting the HTML from the new site to your own site. Only do this if you are comfortable with updating your website and using HTML.

Leisure Audio Books Removed from PIPS Sales Page

Just a quick post for anyone who has not heard - the Leisure Audio Books (LAB) program has now been removed from the PIPS sales page and replaced by Clickbank.

If you login to the PIPS affiliate center and click on "Account" you will see the reason why LAB has been removed.

You can now also add your Clickbank ID into the PIPS affiliate center. If you see the "eprofitu" code in there, this is Stone's ID and you will need to change it to your own ID instead. Clickbank is free and there are thousands of digital products that you can promote.

There is no need to remove your Leisure Audio Books links and banners from your website as you are still a member, it is free and you can still make commissions from this program.

If you want to add Clickbank products to your website, my Content Update Service adds new pages selling ebooks, paid surveys, software and Ewen Chia products to your website.

Review of PIPS Co-op - Plug-In Profit Site

Should I join the PIPS Co-op? This is a question that I have been asked many times by members of my downline or fellow PIPS members.

As a staff member of the PPG one of my jobs is to review products and services on behalf of members so they can make an informed choice as to whether or not to purchase something. My first assignment was a review of the PIPS Co-op. An advertising co-op run by Dustin Cannon.

The primary purpose of a co-op like this is to provide a share of advertising and ultimately sales. Sales are not guaranteed in an advertising co-op, but they are the main measure of success and should determine whether or not you continue to invest in such a co-op.To ensure that my co-op test was fair I opened a brand new PIPS account, separate from my original one, used a reliable and independent tracking link, set up a new autoresponder and set up SFI keycode tracking.

Here are my findings:

I spent $99 for two months - a total of $198 on the co-op and in summary for this money I received the following TOTAL number of sales, subscribers and visitors:

Total Visitors - 63
Total Subscribers in GetResponse - 34 (NOTE - all India email addresses)
Total SFI Affiliates - 14
Total EAs from SFI Affiliates - 0
Total Sales - 0
Total revenue made as a direct result of spend in co-op - $0

So in summary, as a result of my investment of $198 in the co-op I made $0 revenue. The number of daily hits was poor and it was odd that all my new subscribers in GetResponse were from India since it does not say anywhere that the advertising for the co-op is not restricted to India.

There are also a number of bonuses available for co-op members. These include a video for your website, Success University sales page and system, Myspace template, monthly PLR articles, an article submission service, ghostwritten articles for $8 for a 400-500 word article and a toll free internet marketing hotline.

There are some good bonuses in there, but in my opinion not enough to make up for the zero sales for my $198 investment.

Customer service on signup and when I ordered some articles was very good, However, when I made a complaint about something, I found the customer service to be very poor. I sent three emails and 2 PMs over the course of one week and received a combination of unsatisfactory responses and no responses at all.

The cancellation policy is laid out on the co-op website and seems to be fair, but it omits one very important fact. Your account with the co-op will be cancelled as soon as you cancel your next payment.

I was caught out short when I decided to be organized and cancel my co-op payment a week in advance. Not only was my payment cancelled, but my link was removed from the co-op rotation and I was no longer able to login to the co-op back office. In short I did not receive the final week of a month that I had paid in full for!

Usually a memberships allow you to continue enjoying the membership benefits until the anniversary of your payment date after you have cancelled, but not the PIPS Co-op. I complained about this a total of 5 times over the course of a week and was either ignored or not given a satisfactory response.

UPDATE (27/4) - I have now received an email from a co-op staff member expaining that there has been a misunderstanding (on their part) about the cancellation policy and I should not have had my login disabled. Hopefully this should not happen again to other people, but it is good to be aware of this if you do cancel.

Overall Verdict - I was disappointed with the lack of targeted visitors and my problems with cancellation. Personally, I would not choose to invest in this co-op myself as I do not feel that the results justify the cost. However, I will let you form your own opinion based on my report.

Disclaimer - these figures are based on my own results using a second PIPS account and independent tracking link. Results may vary for different people and of course the quality of this co-op may improve or get worse in the future.

Editing Your Plug-In Profit Site - Video Instructions

The majority of people want to make changes to their Plug-In Profit Site, whether it is changing the words on the page, adding or removing images, links and banners, changing the color, optimizing the site or adding new pages.

If you are considering changing your site, don't let fear hold you back. As long as you make a backup of your website before you start, if you screw up, you can always recover again.

If you are just looking to add a new banner, a downloadable PDF file or an image to your website you will find some instructions on how to update your PIPS site here.

However, if you are looking for a more detailed explanation with examples you may want to consider watching a "how to" video. I had actually thought about creating my own "how to" video, but when I discovered that Darrin McLauglin of PIP Site Help had already done this, I decided to download his videos and take a look at them.

His PIPS Instructional Video Series include four separate videos and are quickly and easily downloaded in a zip file which you can then extract on to your PC.

His First video lasts for just over 10 minutes and is an introduction on how to get to your HTML code, download it on to your desktop and edit the code. Darrin talks you through all the basics, without assuming any knowledge, so this is a really great video for complete beginners. He talks slow enough for you to actually follow along with him in the video and do changes as he explains how to do them. In this video you learn to change:

- The text that appears in the TITLE bar of your page
- The meta keywords of your website

And Darrin also walks you through the code on your index page (home page), explaining all the important parts.

The second video is a bit longer at 20 minutes and concentrates on adding a left box to your website with some text, a link and a vertical clickable banner. He also explains the difference between a standard PIP site and one that has had changes made to it such as a color change or a Mega site upgrade. In the video you will be able to follow Darrin as he edits the HTML code and adds a new box on to his site, just under the Dotcomology box.

The third video is just under twenty minutes long and explains in detail how to add a big central box onto your website. This is handy if you want to add an article on to your home page, or perhaps some information about other affiliate programs. He also explains how to add a link or a horizontal banner and how to center, bold or italicize your text.

The final video is just over 14 minutes long and covers how to remove content from your website, how to upload files to your website and very importantly, how to backup files. Removing content from your website is something that you may want to do if you are not a member of one of the standard programs that are part of PIPS and want to remove the banners and links for this program. As an example Darrin shows you how to remove all the Empowerism promotional links, text and banners from your site. The same could easily be done for Success university or any other program that you are not interested in promoting.

There is also a very handy text file included with the video series and this file contains simple code that you can copy and paste then use for creating new boxes, links and banners on your website.

Overall, I was very impressed with these videos and I would highly recommend them for anyone who has a standard PIPS website and wants to make changes for themselves. Darrin's voice is easy to listen to and if you have a fear of HTML, your fear should certainly lessen after watching these videos!

Stuck with PIPS and don't know where to start?

Have you just started out with the Plug-In Profit site? Or have you been plugging away for a few months now and just don't know what to do next?

I am going to keep this post very simple and recommend concentrating on two things. These two things will help to increase the visitors to your website and bring you free traffic for years to come. You need to do both of these things as they are not as effective when done on their own.

(1) Article Marketing
Commit yourself to writing one article per week on the topic of your website i.e. on business opportunities, how to start a business, website marketing, working from home etc. Your article should be around 500 words or so and informative rather than blatently advertising anything. At the end of the article add an Author resource box. Here is an example:

Suzanne Morrison works full time from home and is the webmaster of Home Business Ideas. Visit her website to receive 6 free work from home ebooks and learn how to start your own online business.

If English is not your first language, or if you suffer from writer's block (I know the feeling), then you don't have to write the articles yourself. Consider getting your articles ghostwritten for you.

Once you have an article ready submit it to article directories. You can either do this manually, use article submission software or use an article submission service. Have a look at my Article Directories, Software and Tools page for some suggestions of where to submit your articles and what tools to use.

Commit yourself to doing this at least once a week and you will see a gradual increase in visitors and you could also improve the ranking of your website if you follow the search engine optimization steps below...

(2) Search Engine Optimization
A lot of people are concerned with changing the look of their site so that it doesn't look like other PIP sites.

For me the first and most important thing that you should do to your site is optimize it. Changing the color, adding banners and flashing bells and whistles is all very nice, but it doesn't bring you any visitors. You may want to do some of this stuff later on, but there is not a lot of point in making your site look fancy if nobody is going to see it.

For this reason I recommend optimizing your site for the search engines. This is the process of:
- choosing keywords for your website
- placing these keywords in the right places on your site
- getting links back to your site using a method such as article marketing

Long Time No Write...

It's been about three weeks since my last post here - my apologies for that! Life has been a bit frantic recently. Just as I was getting used to my enjoyable days of working from home I was summoned for jury duty and I am now in the fifth week of a trial. As well as being bored out of my mind all day it has also left me only a few hours in the evening to run my business. This means I have enough time to stay up to date with my emails, complete my website update orders and not much else! So this blog amongst other things has suffered recently. Hopefully all of this will come to an end soon.

On the plus side, I can be thankful for the residual income from the Plug-In Profit site to keep me going while I don't do as much work as usual.

I have also joined the Reverse Funnel System (RFS) and if you would like more information on this you can submit your email or feel free to contact me for more information. I'll be writing more about this soon, once I am back to my work from home normality!

SFI's new Eye Earn Co-op

At the start of this year SFI introduced a brand new co-op called Eye Earn. This replaces the previous SFI co-op and you can join for just a one of cost of $20. Eye Earn is certainly worth considering for Plug-In Profit site owners and SFI affiliates.

This co-op differs from most other co-ops as you just have to pay a one off fee to qualify for a share. The fee is $20 + shipping costs and you'll receive a T-shirt, stickers for your car and business cards. You'll be advertising the Eye Earn website which has a catchy and easy to remember domain name, so the chances of someone remembering the name and visiting the site to sign up with SFI are pretty high.

If you are interested in this co-op just login to your SFI account and follow the instructions to join. Once you receive your Eye Earn pack you will need to send a photo of your car with the Eye Earn sticker in the window to prove that you are serious about advertising Eye Earn.

I have ordered my own Eye Earn kit and am waiting for this to arrive in deepest darkest Scotland. The good news is, I have received about 10 affiliates from this co-op already. These affiliates may go on to become Plug-In Profit Site owners.

Happy New Year everyone! I have a feeling that 2008 is going to be a prosperous one. As I mentioned in my previous blog entry my goal for the first half of 2008 is to increase my monthly revenue by 50%. I managed this last year, but it took a whole year. This year I aim to do this in half the time.

Note - these numbers only show subscribers that have not canceled their account e.g. if someone signed up in March 07 and quit in November 07 they will not be counted towards the total.

2007 - A great year with the Plug-In Profit Site

Happy Hogmany!
Well, it is the last day of 2007 and I am doing a little work before heading out to celebrate at a Hogmany party. For those of you who don't know, Hogmany is the Scottish name for New Year's Eve. Like most people round the world we will be celebrating, drinking champagne and other tipples, dancing, eating and getting ready for the bells. Edinburgh, where I live has one of the biggest street parties in the world on Princes street, right beside Edinburgh castle, with live music and fireworks at midnight. I always prefer to look forward rather than back, but I am taking a moment to reflect on 2007. It has been another successful year promoting the Plug-In Profit site. Looking back at my online revenue, my income from PIPS and other affiliate programs has increased by approximately 50% when comparing each month to the same month on 2006. I also quit my day job back in May 2007 and have been enjoying life as a full time internet marketer ever since.

I am not one to make New Year's resolutions, I prefer goals, so my main goal for the coming months is to increase my income by another 50% by the middle of 2008.

Pay Per Play - Another way to make Income from your Website

From time to time I like to talk about additional ways to make an income from your Plug-In Profit website. Although you already have SFI, Empowerism, Success University, Traffic Swarm, Host4Profit and Leisure Audio books links and advertising on your website there is nothing wrong with adding a few additional income streams. For example a lot of Plug-In Profit site owners have added Google adense and Clickbank products.

In February 2008 there will be a new way to make money from your website. This is called Pay Per Play Advertising and is being launched by a company called Net Audio Ads. This differs from Google Adsense and affiliate programs because the visitors to your site do not have to buy anything or click on an ad for you to get paid. When a visitor arrives at your site they will be played a short 5 second audio advert and you will get paid each time an audio ad is played to one of your visitors. It's a bit like radio advertising but on the internet and more targeted because visitors will only hear relevant ads - that is relevant to the content of your website.

How Much Does it Cost to Join Success University?
The monthly cost is $55.90. This includes full access to all the courses mentioned above, training, the ability to earn commission and a monthly physical package in the mail with a newsletter and a CD.

If you are unsure of whether or not Success University is for you you can sign up for a $2 trial. This trial gives you full access to the member center for a full two weeks and you can cancel at any time if you decide that it is not for you.

Am I Tied in for a Specific Number of Months?
No, you can quit at the end of the two week trial, at the end of a few weeks, a few months or a few years. You are not tied in in any way.

What can I Earn with Success University?
As long as you can personally refer two other members you can start earning commission in your first month, from a combination of your own referrals and the referrals of those above you and below you. The commission plan is a binary and impossible to explain in a few sentences, but you are looking at around $30ish per six people in your organisation (including people sponsored by your upline and downline) + various bonuses. There are lots of FAQs and a training call which explain the commission structure in more detail.

How do I Get Paid?
If you are in the USA, Canada or Mexico you will receive a check by mail. International affiliates like myself receive a cash card which can be used in cash machines round the world. Commissions are paid both weekly and monthly.

I have a Plug-In Profit Site, but have a Very Low Budget. Should I join SU?
In this circumstance I would advise you not to join SU. Wait until you are earning a healthy profit and then sign up for SU you boost your earning.

What Sort of Training and Support is Available for Promoting SU?
There's an email training bootcamp and a getting started checklist for when you join initially. There are also regular training and marketing calls, a weekly faculty call, a support helpdesk and lots of marketing materials such as banners and email ads. All the calls are recorded so you can access them at a later date if the time doesn't suit you.

How do I Join Success University?
Success University is no longer available. If you are intersted in internet marketing training and coaching I recommend the Affiliate Power Group - you can try this for 10 days for just $1.

I hadn't noticed, but a couple of people kindly pointed out to me that my blog subscripton buttons weren't working. They worked when I installed them, many moons ago, but somehow they managed to break somewhere along the way.

The good news is, I have now fixed the subscription buttons and also added a "Subscribe by email" button.

If you scroll down and look on the right hand side of this page you will see the buttons you can use to add th RSS feed of this blog to your favourite RSS reader, or alternatively subscribe in the good old fashioned way, via email.

If you are interested in adding your own subscribe buttons and email subscriptions to your blog, the easiest way to do this is to visit the FeedBurner site and register for a free account. Add in the RSS address of your blog and then use the menus to choose which buttons you would like using the chicklet chooser. There are quite good instructions under the help if you get stuck.

Just Married

It's been a wee while since I have posted to this blog now! My excuse - I have just been getting married and away on my honeymoon in South Africa. My business wasn't getting its usual attention in the weeks leading up to the wedding, but now I am back and raring to go, as soon as I have finished clearing by backlog over over 2000 emails! If you have emailed me in the last few weeks, I will get a response back to you as soon as possible.

Get a Top Ranking in Google (& Yahoo & MSN)

The Importance of Setting Goals for your Home Business

Firstly, I apologise for the severe lack of posts to my Plug-In Profit Blog over the last couple of months! I am getting married 3 weeks tomorrow so I have been spending rather a lot of time wedding planning and not as much time on my business.

I wanted to write a little bit about goal setting today. This may seem boring, but I believe that it is extremely important and can actually mean the difference between success and failure.

If you are starting your own home business you need to have a think about why you are doing this and what exactly you want to achieve. Where to you want to be six months from now? A year from now? And even 5 years from now? If you find it hard to think this far ahead in terms of your business, have a think about it in terms of your personal life. How much money do you want to be making, what sort of lifestyle do you want to have, what things do you want for your family? What do you want to spend your time doing? If you think of these things it is then easier to work backwards and think of actual goals for your business.

As well as just thinking about your goals it is very important that you write these goals down. It has been proven in studies that people who write down their goals are much more likely to achieve them. Harvard business school did a study on the achievements of their graduate students 10 years after graduating and found that the 3% of graduates that had written goals were earning 10 times more than the other 97% of students.

I always set myself home business goals at the beginning of each month. I then break the goals down into the steps I need to take to achieve these goals. This gives me something short term to aim for and at the end of the month I can then look back and see what I have achieved before thinking about the goals I have for the following month.

When writing down your goals try to ensure that they are "SMART"

S = Specific - write down exactly what you are going to do and why.

M = Measurable - "I am going to make $200 more this month than I did last month" rather than "I am going to make a bit more money this month"

A = Attainable - don't set goals that are completely unacheivable or too far out of reach for you. You need to stretch yourself a bit, but don't go over the top.

R = Realistic - make sure the goal is "doable". The best way to do this is to come up with a plan of the steps you are going to take to achieve that goal.

T = Timely - set an actual date for your goal e.g. "the end of December 2007" rather than "in two months time"

Do I Have to Join all the Plug-In Profit Site Affiliate Programs?

This is a question that I get asked often by people who are thinking of signing up for a Plug-In Profit Site. I thought I would write the answer here on my blog for the benefit of anyone who is considering signing up, or for those of you who get asked the same question yourself.

The answer is "No". You do not have to join every affiliate program if you don't want to or can't afford to. A lot of people who are looking for a home business are short on cash - that is why they are looking in the first place. If this is the situation you are in and you wish to get a Plug-In Profit Site I would recommend signing up for:

(1) Host4Profit - this is the only mandatory one and is $24.95 a month
(2) SFI - free to join
(3) Leisure Audio Books - free to join
(4) Traffic Swarm - free to join

This means that your monthly running costs for your website are $24.95 per month, as long as you use free advertising methods.

You have the option of joining Empowerism and/or Success University at any point in the future. I would recommend Empowerism first as this is the cheaper option and is a little easier to start making commissions from.

An Easy Way to Make Some Extra Cash

As a general rule, I only talk about things on this blog that are

a) Related specifically to the Plug-In Profit Site
b) Related to promoting your Plug-In Profit Site

My reason for this is that this is a Plug-In Profit blog and I don't want to stray from this subject too much or distract people who are focusing on promoting their Plug-In Profit Site and nothing else.

One of my concerns has always been that there are a lot of people who have close to zero money to spend on the promotion of their website and sometimes struggle to afford the $24.95 a month for the hosting, not to mention costs for the other programs if they chose to join these too.

For this reason I am always on the look out for easy, low risk or no risk ways for people to make some extra income. This income could be used towards promotion costs of your site, or just as an extra source of income.

One such program is something that I came across a couple of weeks ago and it is called Cash Crate. It is a completely free to join program and there are no upgrade options and no fees. You basically signup and complete offers in exchange for cash. Typical offers include short surveys, questionnaires, filling in forms etc.

As a test I joined this program and spent just over an hour completing some offers. I also told one friend about the site and he also joined and tried out a few offers. For my hour or so of effort and the same amount of time from my friend I earned $28.27. Ok, so it isn't going to make me a millionaire and I don't want to spend hours doing this a week, but it is something that you could join for free, spend an hour or so each week and earn yourself an extra bit of income. There is also even more potential for income if you refer people as you can earn up to 30% of their earnings as well.

It is open to everyone all round the world. I think there are more offers available to US residents, but I had 3 pages worth of offers to complete and I am in the UK so it is definitely not a USA only program.

Squidoo is a social networking site, which means that you can visit other peoples' lenses and make comments and/or rate their lense. If you have a lens that is relevant to their interests they may visit your lense and do the same. You can also promote your lens just like you would promote a regular website or blog. Squidoo has a very good search engine ranking so it will generally be easier to get your lens ranked highly for your particular keyword than it would for a brand new website.

Did I also mention that Squidoo will pay you a proportion of revenue from your lens? You will receive a proportion of Adsense income based on the number of visitors to your lenses and you will receive a proportion of any Amazon sales that are made through your lenses. You can keep this money for yourself or give it to charity.

It's easy to get started - just join Squidoo for free and then follow the instructions to start building your first lens. Your lens could be about home business, or the Plug-In profit site, or ways to make extra money from home, or SFI, or internet marketing - the list is endless.

Staying Organised in your Home Business

Whether you are working full time from home online, or just dedicating a few hours a week to promoting your Plug-In Profit site, it is important to stay organised.

Many people start out in internet marketing and quickly become confused and overwhelmed, with a general feeling of "information overload". They jump from one opportunity to the next without sticking with something long enough to try it out, or they have too many eggs in the one basket and spread themselves too thinly over too many opportunities or websites without seeing success in any of them.

Do any of the above descriptions match you? If so, then read on...

If you are just feeling overwhelmed in general you may want to read my previous blog post on Information Overload.

Here's how I organise myself on a daily/monthly basis:

(1) I have a master To Do list, which I call my Home Business Backlog. I keep this list in an Excel spreadsheet. I have different sections in the spreadsheet for different things e.g. one worksheet for all my home business website work, which includes all the work I need to do to promote my Home Business Ideas website and my various home business blogs. I have another worksheet for general business related things e.g. tax returns, keeping my laptop up to date, brainstorming business ideas, reading business books etc. I have a worksheet for all my smaller Google Adsense related sites and blogs, a worksheet for all the training and reading that I want to do and a worksheet for each of my other projects. Everything in this Home Business Backlog spreadsheet is prioritized - High, Medium or Low and there is a rough time estimate beside each item.

(2) Every 2-3 weeks I do something called a "sprint". I create some goals for myself and I look at everything in my Home Business Backlog and choose the most important things from it that I will need to do to achieve my goals. I work out how many hours I have available to me over that time period and ensure that the total amount of work I take from the Home Business Backlog adds up to roughly the amount of time I have available. I put all of these things into a new spreadsheet and this becomes my "to do" list for the next 2-3 weeks. Each task in the spreadsheet has an estimate of time beside it and every day when I work on a task I update the hours remaining on that task. Here is a screenshot of part of this spreadsheet:

There is a little graph on the top right that has a line on it, which should eventually reach zero once I have "burned down" all my work for that 2-3 week period. It is a great way to keep organised because it keeps me very focused on the most important tasks and I can only wander astray and surf the internet aimlessly if I am ahead of schedule.

This way of working may not be for you, but I really do recommend at least having a master to-do list or backlog.

The important thing for me is that it stops me from getting distracted and jumping from one thing to the next. If a new opportunity arises, instead of jumping on it I just add it to my main home business backlog and give it a priority. If it is more important than everything else, then I can include it in my next 2-3 week sprint.

All of the above techniques are borrowed from something called "Scrum", as I was a "Scrum Master" before I quit the day job. You probably won't have heard of this unless you have been involved with software development. It sounds weird, but if you want to know that I am not making this up, do a search in Google for "Scrum Master" :-)

How to put a Blogger Blog on to your Plug-In Profit Site

You may know already that adding content to your Plug-In Profit site regularly will help your search engine rankings, especially if that content is fresh, original content.

If you are not sure how to add new pages to your website an easy way to add content is by posting regularly to your blog. As long as your blog is hosted on your site rather than at blogspot, every post you make to your site will count as content.

For example my blog is http://www.homebiz-direct.com/blog is hosted on my site and the blog you are reading now, http://pluginprofit.blogspot.com/ is hosted by blogspot.

So how do you go about doing this? I have put together some step by step instructions below:

Open a new blogging account at Blogger if you don't have one already. It's free by the way.
Follow the instructions to create your blog. Use a classic template.
Login into your WebEpanel e.g. http://www.homebiz-direct.com/menu (replace homebiz-direct.com with your own domain) using your Host4Profit username and password.
Click on "File Manager"
Scroll to the bottom of the page and type the word "blog" inside the "Create directory" box then click the "create directory" button.
You have now created a sub directory on your site, so when you move your blogger blog to your site it will be published at the URL http://www.homebiz-direct.com/blog (again replace homebiz-direct.com with your domain)
Go back to Blogger and click on the "Settings" tab for your blog
Click on the Publishing Link
IMPORTANT: If you see the Hint "if you want to publish to an external FTP server you will need to set Blog readers to anybody and use a classic template" then you will need to follow Blogger's instructions to change to a classic template
Click on the "Switch to FTP" settings
Fill in the boxes as follows:
FTP Server = your domain e.g. homebiz-direct.com
Blog URL = what I said in #6 above e.g. http://www.homebiz-direct.com/blog
FTP Path = /username-www/blog/ - replace username with your Host4Profit username
Blog Filename = index.html
Feed Filename = atom.xml
FTP Username = your Host4Profit username
FTP Password = your Host4Profit password
Send Pings = yes
That's it - you're done. You can click "Save Settings" now and republish your blog

If you don't want to do this yourself you can use Darrin's Self Hosted Blog Upgrade Service or alternatively become a member of the PIPS Power Group and we will install a Wordpress blog on your website.

Try to post to your blog as often as possible and you will see the benefits. Every day is ideal, but if you can't do this try to blog 3 times a week.

Leisure Audio Books to become part of PIPS

30 Days to Success Revamped

If you have your own Plug-In Profit site you will hopefully be familiar with the 30 days to Success Training. This is the training in your member center that takes you step by step through promoting your site, day by day.

I just received a message from Stone to let me know that he had made a lot of changes to the training recently. Most of the training days have been updated and new training has been added.

I did the 30 Days to Success Training quite a long time ago now, so I decided to take a quick look. The training has certainly changed since I was last there and it looks great, so I have decided to walk through it again over the next couple of weeks. I am sure that I will learn something new as Stone has a wealth of useful information to share about how to promote your site.

I always like to give people a little warning before they begin 30 days to Success. Remember that this is just a guide and you don't have to do everything in it. You certainly don't have to buy every product or upgrade recommended in it either. Stick to your budget. If you come across something that you would like to purchase, but you can't afford it, just bookmark it for later. I personally have a folder in my favorites called "Wish List". Everytime I come across a product or service that I would like to buy, I put it in my wish list :-)

My First Day as a Full Time Internet Marketer

Today was a wonderful day! It was my first day as a full time internet marketer :-) I quit my day job last week and I am looking forward to being my own boss, getting up when I want to, sitting outside when the weather is good (not that often here in Scotland!), taking holidays when I want to, and so the list goes on... I am a little nervous, but looking forward to the future with anticipation.

I began my journey three years ago when I started searching for home business opportunities online and came across SFI, a free to join business opportunity. Soon after that I knew that I would need my own website to succeed online and I came across the Plug-In Profit Site, which of course is the very subject of this blog.

To cut a long story short, if it wasn't for the Plug-In Profit site, I probably wouldn't have quit my job last week. I'm sure I would have got there eventually, but it would have taken me a hell of a lot longer, with a lot more ups and downs on the way.

The combination of having a site up and running within 24hrs, your own prewritten ezine, a 30 days to Success training guide and a members support forum, all for less than the cost of a meal out in a restaurant each month, has been the key to success.
